Rules for face photos
A photo that does not comply with the requirements may result in a refusal to issue the e-Residency digital ID card. Find out below what you need to pay attention to.

A clear close up of your head and top of your shoulders where your face takes up 70-80% of the photo.
The quality of your photo
The photo must be:- in colour
- clear and in focus
- unaltered by computer software
- in .jpg or .jpeg format
- at least 1300 pixels wide and 1600 pixels tall
- no bigger than 6000 pixels wide and 7380 pixels tall
- at least 1.0 MB and no more than 5.0 MB
You can check the pixels of the photo on your device by right-clicking on the photo, opening “Properties” and checking under “Details”.
What your photo must show
The photo must:- contain no other objects or people
- be taken against a plain light-coloured background
- be in clear contrast to the background
- not have ‘red eye’
- be on the same level with your face
- be without marks, creases, scratches or any other defects
In your photo, you must:
- be facing forwards and looking straight at the camera
- have a plain expression and your mouth closed
- have your eyes open and visible
- not have hair in front of your eyes
- not have anything covering your face
- not have any shadows on your face or behind you
- not have a head covering (unless it’s for religious or medical reasons)
A scanned photo or a photo of your photo is not accepted. For example, a photo taken of your passport photo is not accepted.
Examples












Glasses are allowed, but...
- your eyes must be clearly visible
- frames cannot cover the eyes (avoid heavy frame)
- no flash reflection of the glasses
- no tinted lenses


Do not take a selfie
A selfie will distort the shape of your head and show a mirror image of your face. Ask a friend or a family member to take the photo instead.
