Rules for the travel document copy

Presenting a copy of a travel document that does not comply with the requirements may result in a refusal to issue the e-Resident’s digital ID card. Find out below what you need to pay attention to.

The quality requirements

The travel document copy must be:
  • in colour
  • clear and in focus
  • clearly readable
  • unaltered by computer software
  • in .JPG .JPEG or .PNG format (.PDFs are not accepted)
  • no bigger than 1.3 MB

What your travel document copy must include

Please provide a copy of at least one type of document:
  • the personal data page of your passport
  • copies of both sides of your European Union ID card

The copy/copies must:
  • show the document number*
  • show the period of validity*
  • contain no other objects or people
  • not be cut off or cropped
  • be in clear contrast to the background

* If these details are located on another page of your passport, please include a copy of those pages in addition.

Validity requirements for third-country citizens

Travel documents for individuals from countries outside the European Union and Schengen area must be no more than 10 years old, in accordance with Schengen entry standards.
